Preparing for an artist lecture while grieving
Some days, the grief hits harder than others. I still cry a little each day. Or, if I am being honest, more than just a little. It’s hard to get through a day without constantly thinking about Dad and immensely missing him. Especially with hunting season approaching.
I found this photo while sifting through old work as I prepare for an artist lecture. I miss being able to tell him about the things I am doing. I think this one is hitting me harder than I expected because I will be giving the artist lecture on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, near the town where he has gone to hunt every year since before I was born.
The invitation to present my work at Salisbury University came right after he passed away. Maybe it's a sign from Dad that he's still cheering me on—that he's still supporting my art and reminding me to keep going, even when the weight of grief feels especially heavy.
